Just a quick review to say how great it was working with Punta Cana Tours. The communication was timely and professional. The game itself was a great authentic experience and our guide was a perfect host acting as a translator (and negotiator!) when we needed. Great trip–don’t hesitate to work with Punta Cana Tours to get off the resort for a bit–WELL worth it.

We went on a tour to La Romana to see a baseball game with Sasha. There were six of us on this tour. It was Amazing!!! The ride over was very informative and the ball game was great!! We would definitely do this tour again!!!

We booked roundtrip airport transportation, a tour of Santo Domingo and a baseball game through Punta Cana Tours. We were also able to attend a pro baseball game in San Pedro de Macorís, DR, where we had the pleasure of watching the home town team, the Estrellas Orientales (the Stars) beat the Tigres del Licey. We were supposed to go to a game in LaRomana, but when we got to the stadium we learned that the game’s location had been changed to San Francisco, DR. Our guide was able to scramble and get us to another game about an hour’s drive away. We had a great time!

My husband and I loved the Winter Baseball game. The tour was incredible and without their experience it wouldn’t have been the same. Our guide spoke excellent English and Spanish. She taught us all so much about the wonderful country of DR. We learned things that you just wouldn’t have the opportunity to learn without her. The baseball game was excellent. For 3 hours everyone of us was the same. Bonding with the local’s and enjoying an sports event. Thank you so much. Our next trip we plan on using this company again.

We went to the DR for a family wedding, and as it was Dominican winter baseball season, decided to catch a game to experience baseball Dominican style. We had a great time watching the Toros del Este beat the Licey Tigers 6-0. It was fun watching the game and interacting with other baseball fans. Felt perfectly safe the whole time. Enjoyed some excellent fried chicken, too. Highly recommend this tour for anyone who is a fan of baseball! It’s a great way to leave the resort behind and have a real Dominican experience through the common language of baseball!

  6. Audrey (verified purchase)

I went on the baseball tour with my family and it was outstanding. The game was absolutely fantastic – a really authentic and fun experience. There was a ton of energy at the stadium and it was great to be a part of it. We chose to do this tour because my dad is a huge baseball fan. He was excited to see some major leaguers there and to chat with other like-minded fans on the tour. It was really the highlight of our entire trip to the Dominican Republic.

First came to this area 35 years ago as a US Peace Corps Vol. I wanted to arrange a special trip to La Romana to see a baseball game and they handled all the details including negotiating the pricing for the hats at the game for 6 of us This company is locally owned. Special compliments!

Was desperately searching for a baseball tour before leaving Canada and we found one! Sent an email to Punta Cana Tours and the communication was great! We were picked up ( 2 couples) and another couple was on the tour from US (they were such a fun couple) and off we went to La Romana for a Toro’s and Estelles baseball game. We would definitely use Punta Cana Tours again!

The closest baseball stadium to Punta Cana is Estadio Francisco Michelli. Home to Los Toros, the stadium is located about a 1 hour drive from Punta Cana. The second closest stadium is Estadio Tetelo Vargas located in San Pedro de Macoris (1 1/2 hours away) and home to Las Estrellas.

There are 5 cities with professional baseball teams in the Dominican Republic: Santo Domingo, Santiago, San Francisco de Macoris, San Pedro de Macoris and La Romana. For visitors coming to Punta Cana the closest and most accessible stadiums are located in La Romana and San Pedro de Macoris.

San Pedro de Macoris is widely considered the Dominican Republic's most prominent baseball town. This is the city where baseball began in the country and is also the area where nearly every major league baseball team has a training facility. This small Dominican city has developed scores of professional players like Sammy Sosa, Robinson Cano, Fernando Tatis, George Bell and Jose Offerman to name a few.

Sugar production was a new boon for the Dominican Republic in the late 19th century, especially for the town of San Pedro de Macoris. Immigrants working the sugar plantations came from the eastern Caribbean and brought with them the game of cricket. But, the plantation owners were mainly American and convinced their workers to switch to baseball. Local Dominicans picked up on the game and San Pedro continues to be the center for Dominican baseball to this day.

The Dominican Winter League consists of a 50 game regular season, followed by an 18 game playoff and capped with a 9 game finals series. The season lasts from late October to late January.

There are 6 teams in the Dominican Winter League representing 5 Dominican cities: Licey (Santo Domingo), Escogido (Santo Domingo), Las Aguilas (Santiago), Los Gigantes (San Francisco de Macoris), Las Estrellas (San Pedro de Macoris) and Los Toros (La Romana).

The excursion includes 2 drinks (beer, soda or water) and pizza or fried chicken for each person. If you would like to buy anything additional, it's easiest to use a credit card. Most stadiums may accept dollars but at the best rates. You can also bring Dominican pesos but it's hard to know exactly how much you need.
