We're taking you to the northernmost reaches of Punta Cana to a 5 acre tropical oasis filled with none other than....
Monkeys!
Yes, scores of adorable Squirrel Monkeys call this refuge, in Punta Cana's Anamuya mountains, home. And although they're not endemic to the Dominican Republic, the country's tropical climate and lush vegetation perfectly mirror their natural habitat.
Going about their lives in an open, natural environment, the monkeys are also incredibly tame. They enjoy swinging down from the trees to sit on an unsuspecting shoulder or two - always with the hope that there may be something to nibble on in the palm of your hand!
Interacting with these intelligent and adorable creatures is an unforgettable experience and some highlights include:
- 45 minute guided interaction with the monkeys
- Guided, scenic hike through the sanctuary to identify medicinal plants, flowers and fruit bearing trees
- Short visit to the "Coco House" where you'll learn how coconut oil is produced
All this among a breathtaking, mountainous scenery that will take you far from your resort and deep into the Dominican countryside.
Monkeyland is a coveted excursion in Punta Cana and the refuge only allows a certain number of daily visitors to protect the monkey's well-being.

Sherrie Martinez · Chicago, IL
"The monkey feeding itself was maybe twenty minutes, which felt short after all that time in the truck. And that ride up is rough - hold on. Plantation part was actually the better half, the chocolate and mamajuana talk was interesting and nobody pressured us to buy anything."
Juan Ratliff · Levittown, PA
"This ended up being the thing we talked about all week. The ride up passes through small villages and our guide explained what daily life looks like there, which gave the whole day some weight. Then the monkeys, they come straight down onto your head and shoulders once you hold out your hand, and the keepers make sure nobody gets left out. The photographer got shots we never could have taken ourselves. Afterward, the plantation walkthrough on coffee, cacao and mamajuana was genuinely informative and the tastings were generous. Worth every peso. "
